1500 TROOPS TO DESCEND ON DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY FOR EXERCISE JOINT WARRIOR 2015

From April the 12th to 28th the MOD will be conducting a large scale exercise in Southwest Scotland title ‘Exercise Joint Warrior’ .

There is likely to be a substantial amount of fixed wing and helicopter flying over parts of Dumfries and Galloway , Particularly in the vicinity of West Freugh and Castle Kennedy airfields, Including a Parachute drop into the Braid fell area .

The Exercise will also include concentrated tactical activity by ground troops for the duration in the Galloway Forest and North East of Dalbeattie. Exercise Joint warrior will involve the deployment of 750 combat troops and 700 support personnel.

There will be large numbers of military vehicles on the regions roads , Convoy movement can be expected on the A75 between the 10th and 12th of April and the 28th and 30th of April 2015 , please be patient during these periods if traveling on the A75 and allow extra time for your journey.

Tactical deployment of troops or specific tasks can be expected throughout  the entire period of the Exercise , these tasks will involve the use of blank ammunition, smoke, battle simulation where permission has been gained from landowners, tenants and operating authorities.

Due to the limited number of Aircraft available for the exercise , there will be concentrated periods of use , this may result in noise disturbance . Flying Activity has already commenced over the region since March 25th .
