Simon Weston OBE has joined Olympian Becky Adlington and Mandela bodyguard Chris Lubbe as a speaker at The Commonwealth Youth Summit. The Summit will bring together over 250 young people from across the globe for a weekend of Leadership training in Dumfries.

Simon said: “It is an honour to have been asked to come and share my experiences to a group of fantastic individuals, all of whom share the same passion I do, about the importance of communities and volunteering”

Simon suffered burns to 46% of his body after the ship he was serving on during the Falklands War was attacked. Simon has used this experience to raise millions for charities and will share his ambition with the young people at the Summit.

Simon was chosen as the most deserving person to be painted for the National Portrait Galley by BBC The One Show viewers. The portrait by Nicky Philipps, was unveiled in March.
