STEWARTRYS RECORD SCORING VICTORY with JOHN MUIR SCORING A RECORD NINE TRIES IN A GAME

STEWARTRY 132 STRATHAVEN 5

The last game in the RBS West League Division Two season produced a record breaking score for Stewartry when they played Strathaven last Saturday.The visitors have been struggling since the start of the season after they lost a number of players and their coach to other clubs.

Stewartry kicked off and right away put pressure on by getting deep into the Strathaven 22 for a scrum 8 metres from the try line. The Blacks took the heal with the ball going to Lindsay who touched down but the pass was forward. After the reset scrum Stewartry were offside allowing Strathaven to punt the ball down field.

The first points on the board came from a lineout on the left wing. The Blacks forwards secured the ball and sent it over to the other wing where Muir went in for a try. The conversion missed.

A couple of minutes later the visitors were inside the Stewartry 22 when the Blacks got a turnover. Muir attacked getting up to halfway where he passed to McCarney who jinked past two defenders to score under the posts. Mosey slotted the conversion.

From a long throw in at a lineout Picken picked up the ball and charged toward the Strathaven line but the Blacks went offsdie giving the visitors another lineout on the Stewartry 22. The Blacks forwards took the ball with Cannon making ground and passing to Muir. McCarney was on his shoulder to take the outside pass and go from the halfway line in for a try. The conversion went wide.

The visitors went offside on the halfway line. Taking a quick tap Muir ran in a try under the uprights which Mosey converted. Catching the restart ball the Blacks forwards passed it to McCarney who ran up the left wing and in for a converted try.

Another restart saw the ball go to Muir who broke away up the left wing and in for a converted try between the posts.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first period the visitors got a lineout on their own 22. The Blacks took the ball which came out to Riddick. With space in front of him he took crash ball to go in for a convertd try.

From the restart Strathaven attacked up the middle but the Blacks managed a turnover. Another converted try from Muir took the Stewartry score over 50 points.

On the half hour coming off the back of a midfield ruck Ian Fenwick picked up the ball and headed for the Strathaven line to touch down for a converted try.

Eight minutes before half time Cannon, McMorran and McCarney were replaced by Broll, McCulloch and Carson.

Five minutes from the break with a ruck on the Starthaven 10 metre line the ball went out to Carson. He dodged past 2 defenders and in for a converted try taking the half time score to 66 – 0.

In the seventh minute of the second period with a ruck on the Strathaven 22 the Stewartry forwards won a turnover. Once more the ball went to Muir who touched down between the sticks with Mosey converting.

Twelve minutes on and with another converted try by Muir, Burton went off replaced by Cannon. From a ruck inside Stewartry territory Cammy Fenwick broke away up the right wing up to the visitors 22. With a quick pass to Mosey he went in for a try which he converted.

Sainsbury caught the restart kick but he was tackled and took a knock. He was replaced by McMorran. Another restart kick saw the ball going left to Carson who raced up the wing for another converted try.

The visitors were given a peanlty on halfway. At the lineout the Blacks secured the ball which went out to Riddick on the Stewartry 10 metre line. He accelerated past two defenders to go in for a converted try.

From another penalty on halfway Stewartry progressed up to the Strathaven 22 to a lineout. Again the Blacks pack took the ball sending it to Muir. He took the ball at speed to touch down over the visitors line. The conversion went wide.

Into the last quarter the restart kick was caught by captain Ian Fenwick who took it at speed. Breaking through 3 defenders he dived over the visitors line for a converted try.

Burton replaced Lindsay.and from another restart Muir ran in another try which Mosey converted.

With 10 minutes remaining Sainsbury went back on to replace Cammy Fenwick. The visitors mounted an attack up their right wing and the Blacks were penalised for not rolling away. In the lineout on the Blacks 22 Strathaven took the ball driving up toward the home line and in for a try. The conversion was short.

Muir went off replaced by McCarney but he was back on quickly substituting Boyd. With 5 minutes left the Stewratry forwards drove up the left wing deep into the visitors 22 but were stopped 2 metres short. From the ruck Cannon picked up and went in for a try. The conversion missed.

In the final minute Strathaven were given a peanlty and made ground up to the home 22 where Stewartry managed a turnover. Sending the ball to Muir he swerved past opposition players to get another try between the uprights which he converted. Fianl score Stewartry 132 Strathaven 5.

While this was a one sided game from the start credit must go to the visitors who never gave up despite the number of points against them.
