The Devil’s Porridge Museum at Eastriggs near Annan, Dumfries and Galloway will be holding a Remembrance weekend event with a difference this Saturday November 9th from 3pm.

The focus will be their beautiful Animals in War memorial which is located outside of the Museum.  Local young people will be leading a service of remembrance for all the animals who also served in war.

People will be bringing along their pets: horses, dogs and pigeons will be in attendance but all animals (that are kept under control!) are welcome.

“We will be laying a wreath made of purple poppies, the poppy for remembering animals in war.” said Judith Hewitt, Museum Manager.  “People will also be able to get purple poppies to wear as badges or as animal collar charms for a donation.  We’re especially excited to have living history re-enactors bringing their horses with World War One cavalry equipment.  They will be outside the Museum all day and our Animals in War exhibition is also running so we hope lots of people will join us to find out more about the experiences of animals in conflict and to share in this unusual, pet focused community event.”
