ALL FEMALE 3 PEAKS CHALLENGERS RAISE ALMOST £10,000

The all female team of Dumfries and Galloway girls Myra McGinley of Elysian, Pauline Drysdale, Emma Whitby, Ali Haggerty, Lise Cooper and their friends Nicky Biggart, Jacqui Stacey, Jen Fowler McGonigle & Vicky Ghorn all managed to climb to the top of all 3 Peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon) within 24 hours last weekend, raising over £9,500 for Cancer Research and two local families last weekend. The experience was challenging and the team had to put in a number of training days in order to be fit enough. They were delighted as apart from feeling exhausted this week there were no sore legs or blisters!

The team were aided by their three amazing volunteer drivers who drove over 3000 miles between them without stopping, as well as their very kind sponsors. Pauline said, ‘Without local driving instructor Bob Green, Cameron Whyte and Glen Dott we couldn’t have completed the task as we were let down at the last minute by drivers and mountain leaders.
Our sponsors deserve huge thanks as ‘Glen Rental’ in Carlisle provided a free mini bus, ‘Cairn Estate Agency’ in Glasgow donated all the fuel money whilst ‘Dicksons of Perth’ and Andy Smith of ‘Total Insurance Company’ (part of James Hallam Ltd) kindly donated us camper vans. These very kind offers meant that we were able to do the challenge for a lot less than if we/the charity had needed to fund it. We’d also like to thank Tesco, Castle Douglas for the £30 voucher towards food and ‘Irving the Bakers’ for their delicious chocolate flap jacks and porridge pots which kept us fuelled over the weekend.
Myra McGinley of Elysian added, ‘It is incredible as to how much money was raised locally as well as on our Just Giving page (now at over £5,500) from friends and colleagues from far and wide. We are truly indebted to you all.’ The team hope to present the two local families with the money raised in this area within the next week or two so that they may put it to good use.
