Deep Mapping Project off to a Brilliant Start Thanks to Vibrant Local Poetry Scene

Oxfam Dumfries’s new Writer in Residence Katy Ewing has started an incredible collaborative writing project that aims to map out Dumfries in poetry, prose, and photographs. See what is going on here https://deepmappingdumfries.wordpress.com/ or by searching online for Deep Mapping Dumfries.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the quality and number of submissions to the project so far. Big names in the writing scene like Hugh McMillan, Celia Donovan, and Finola Scott have sent in their work to add to this project. Through all these different perspectives we build up a bigger picture of what Dumfries is.” – Rory Fairweather, Manager at Oxfam Dumfries

“Dumfries is in the midst of finding out who it wants to be, what it can be. Many incredibly positive, innovative and community-based placemaking projects are ongoing – including, but not limited to: The Stove Network, the Midsteeple Quarter, Incredible Edible, MOOL (Massive Outpouring of Love), Rosefield Mills, Moat Brae, and of course Oxfam Books and Music Dumfries’s various projects, including the current ‘Art Beats Poverty’ summer programme. In order to add to this, I’m going to do what I can to try to build up a portrait of who Dumfries is and has been. I hope that this can be ongoing and include the voices and perspectives of as many folk as possible.” – Katy Ewing, writer in residence at Oxfam Dumfries

To tap into this thriving poetry scene, Oxfam Dumfries are hosting a free writing workshop lead by Katy Ewing on the 19th of August. Find the details through facebook.com/dumfriesoxfam
