Community Trying to Raise Funds to Repair Kirkgunzeon War Memorial

The community in Kirkgunzeon are currently fundraising to repair their local War Memorial, the lettering is in poor condition and with the memorials centenary approaching they feel it deserves some attention.

In 1918 the community of Kirkgunzeon raised funds to erect a permanent memorial to the men from the parish who fell in the Great War.
The Kirkgunzeon War Memorial was dedicated in July 1919, one of the earliest local war memorials to be erected.
In recent years, the lettering on the monument has started to peel and fade and several letters are now missing.
In the run up to the centenary of Armistice Day in November it is felt that the Memorial deserves a spruce up in time for the wreath laying ceremony this year

Since the closure of Kirkgunzeon Church 5 years ago, Maxwell Memorial Hall Committee has taken on responsibility for the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Memorial.
In line with the original appeal to the community to raise funds for the erection of the monument, the Hall Committee are hoping the community will support this appeal and donate towards the restoration works.

If they are lucky enough to exceed our target of £330, any surplus funds will be put towards the conservation of the Parish Rolls of Honour which are on display in the Hall.
