Ever Considered Volunteering at Your local Citizens Advice Bureau?

Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service supports people in need, right across our region on issues such as:

  • Benefits, Debt, Money Advice, Consumer Issues;
  • Employment, Housing, Healthcare & Patient Rights;
  • Discrimination and Family and Personal Problems.

They have Bureaux situated in Annan, Dumfries, Castle Douglas and Stranraer with outreach centres across the region including in the new DGRI and Midpark hospitals in Dumfries.

Sue Irving, Chief Executive Officer, said,

“In 2016 -17 we dealt with nearly 28 000 issues, including £12million of debt and put almost £8million pounds back into the economy. The majority of the contact on a day to day basis is carried out by volunteer advisers who are provided with a high level of training to provide guidance and support to empower those that need our services to make the right decisions for themselves. We do this whilst maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and confidence in what we do. Our volunteers take great pride in the help and support they provide”.

Phil Stewart, Volunteer Development Officer said,

 “To continue to provide such a high level of service we need more volunteer support especially from advisers at all our bureaux.
Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds. We ask that they are a good listeners and IT literate, community minded, inclusive and impartial, available to work a couple of sessions a week, either mornings and/or afternoons and open to learning.
If you have these qualities then we would be delighted to hear from you.
Other roles such as administrators and fundraisers are also available.”
