As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, to reduce disruption, Scotland TranServ will combine two surfacing projects for the A75 at Barlae, west of Newton Stewart.
The surface patching programme will be completed under daytime convoy between Monday the 3rd and Thursday the 6th of August. These projects will be delivered following strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance. In association with Transport Scotland, we have identified these projects as essential maintenance schemes, vital to maintaining the integrity and safety of the trunk road network.
Michael Pagan, Scotland TranServ’s Network Area Manager said:
“We have implemented many new working practices across our own workforce and those of our contractors and suppliers as we work towards the future delivery of our maintenance programmes. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.
“This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out overnight in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.
“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland would like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for making only essential journeys over the last few months, and for playing their part in protecting the country’s key workers.” The convoy traffic management system will be implemented during the following times:
Barlae to Muil Farm
– Monday 3rd of August – 8am until 5pm
– Tuesday 4th of August – 8am until 5pm
Muil Farm to Halfway House
– Wednesday 5th of August – 8am until 5pm
– Thursday 6th of August – 8am until 5pm

“An efficient and well-managed trunk road network is particularly important to supporting essential supply chains and the wider economy across South West Scotland at this time. Working in collaboration with Transport Scotland, we have identified a number of essential maintenance projects, which are being prioritised over the coming weeks.
“We fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network and where possible, Scotland TranServ is supporting Transport Scotland as they expect to invest £471million in maintenance in 2020/21.
