Castle Douglas Ladies Aim To Hike The 3 Peaks In 24hrs

A group of Castle Douglas girls and their friends hope to take on the 3 Peaks Challenge in May. The challenge includes scaling  Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon, a total height of 10, 052 feet in 24 hours. The team are being helped by Craig Wallace and Jonny Wallace, personal training instructors.

It all came about after one member had a regular mammogram screening and was referred to the Breast Clinic in Irvine for further scans. At this stage lumps were discovered and biopsies were taken but she was most fortunate as both were benign. However, it made the group all very aware that in the UK we are fortunate to have the Breast Screening service & Breast & Prostate Awareness which is part of Cancer Research. Group organiser Pauline Drysdale said, ‘To this end we have gathered a group of like minded women together (local girls Myra McGinley, Kayleigh McGinley, Emma Whitby, Ali Haggerty, Annika Jardine & Jane Bailey, plus Jen McGonigle, Nicky Biggart, Lise Cooper and Jacqui Stacey) to attempt these hills in as close to 24hrs as we can manage.’

Sponsorship has been kindly donated by ‘Cairn Estate Agency’ in Glasgow towards costs and also a mini bus has been donated for transport from ‘Glen Rental’ in Carlisle. We’d be so grateful for donations on this JUST GIVING PAGE for Cancer Research (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/3peakshikeforcancer). However, we are also raising funds for two local mums & their families who are suffering from this dreadful disease. Forms can be found in ‘Elysian’ in Castle Douglas & these donations will go directly towards Kay Livingstone & Rachel Houston for a family weekend away or towards travel costs during their treatment. Many thanks for your support. In the meantime the team are out and about in our hiking boots, braving the weather and getting miles on hills!
