CRESSWELL MATERNITY UNIT TO RE-OPEN AS NEW TREATMENT FACILITY

NHS Dumfries and Galloway are delighted to announce Scottish Government approval of plans to transform the Cresswell building into a new treatment facility, providing a range of out-patient and day-case services.

Services currently located in Cresswell (Maternity and Day Surgery) will be included in the four day transfer of patients, staff and equipment from the existing DGRI to the new hospital in December 2017, and just months later work will commence on an exciting re-design making the existing maternity wing a fully-equipped space to include: Renal, Ophthalmology, Dietetic, Podiatry, Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Diabetes and Rehabilitation Services. The building will be named Mountainhall Treatment Centre and will re-open in 2020.

Jeff Ace, Chief Executive for NHS Dumfries and Galloway said:
“Scottish Government support for this project enables us to deliver the final phase of our modernisation of acute services in the region. This new day treatment facility will provide a great environment for patients and staff and will be designed to meet latest service requirements. This is another major project for the Board and continues our commitment to provide the best possible healthcare facilities for the people of Dumfries and Galloway.”

Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport said:

“I’m delighted the Scottish Government has been able to be able to support this excellent new facility. With the new District General Hospital opening later this year, this is an exciting time for the health service in Dumfries and Galloway. I know the revitalised Cresswell building is a key part of the board’s plans for out-patient and day-case services.”

Katy Lewis, Director of Finance for NHS Dumfries and Galloway said:

“We are now in a position to progress with our plans to redesign and refurbish the Cresswell building, making it a modern fit for purpose facility for outpatient and day-case services. This is excellent news for the local community to compliment the hospital provision in the new DGRI building.”
