Crowds Log On for Dumfries and Galloway College Virtual Open Week

Dumfries and Galloway College’s first-ever virtual open week has attracted over 500 attendees.

The event, designed to give prospective students a glimpse into life at the South of Scotland college, drew the interest of 509 online participants who learned all about the different subjects, courses, and support available to them.

Spanning five days, the virtual open week consisted of Q&A sessions, presentations, and messages from senior members of staff, including Principal Joanna Campbell.

Information on admissions and funding, as well as on other aspects of student support, was also available for attendees digitally in lieu of being able to attend in person.

Feedback from the week has been overwhelmingly positive with both staff and prospective students welcoming the innovative approach, especially under the present challenging circumstances.

Holding its open week online shows how Dumfries and Galloway College has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by shifting to digital delivery, a strategy that has seen learning and teaching continue at the college.

Dumfries and Galloway College, under the leadership of Principal Joanna Campbell, has led the way in ensuring that college life continues throughout the pandemic and is also committed to making sure that Scotland has the skills and resources that it needs to emerge from COVID-19 on a sound economic footing.

The week ran from Monday 18 May through to Friday 22 May 2020.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“I am delighted by the success of our first-ever virtual open week.
“Amid the understandable frustration and challenges that COVID-19 has created, our college is proud to have been able to use the skills and know-how we have at our disposal to keep things running smoothly.

“I want to congratulate our staff and prospective students for making this such a success and say that we look forward to welcoming many of them to our campus when we can.”
