Construction has began for preparation of the laying of a seven-mile long fibre optic cable around the town of Dumfries which my lead to posible disruption and delays on roads and footpaths around the town.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway are working in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council to procure a seven mile long fibre optic cable around Dumfries town, a contributing factor in the delivery of a new ‘digital hospital’, new data centre, and the flexibility to support joined up services throughout the region.
Preparation work for the cable to be installed has commenced and will continue well into 2017.
The Health and Social Care Partnership would like to inform the public that there will be some disruption on the roads and pathways throughout Dumfries town, but to highlight that this is essential work to enable the delivery of improved information technology for public services in our region, and the new hospital which is scheduled to open in December 2017.
The first of a series of works have started near the Cargenbridge roundabout and throughout Dalbeattie Road and Park Road, and will continue for the next eight weeks. The works are being carried out by David Hardie Engineering Ltd. The Board would like to reassure the public that they will be given advance notice as the works progress through the town over the next twelve months.

The work will take a number of months to complete and we will do our utmost to ensure that any disruption to road users is minimised. NHS Dumfries and Galloway are working in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council and this development will help both organisations deliver efficient, technology enabled services and by working together we can ensure best value for the public.”
