DONATION BOOST FOR PLAYLIST FOR LIFE

NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s Playlist for Life Project received a funding boost of £400 thanks to a generous donation from Lochmaben Ladies Golf Club.

Lynda Nairn, 2015 Captain for Lochmaben Ladies Golf Club, and a specialist critical care nurse at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, contacted Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Consultant Julie Garton after reading Julie’s blog The Beat Goes On (https://dghealth.wordpress.com/2016/07/08/the-beat-goes-on-by-julie-garton/) which was published in July.

Lynda said:  “We raise funds every year and most of the money goes to breast cancer.  However the Captain’s Choice was down to me and I wanted the money we raised to go to something specific and local.  I think it’s important to raise awareness of dementia and ways we can support people living with this condition.”

Julie said:  “We know from research that music has the potential to evoke memories, prompt conversation and improve mood.  Playing music that has personal meaning can unlock precious memories, restore a sense of self and can strengthen relationships with family and friends.

“It was a donation from the League of Friends that helped us get this project set up in Dumfries and Galloway and this latest donation from Lochmaben Ladies Golf Club means we can invest in six new kits to help people with dementia, their families, friends and Carers.  Thank you to all the golfers who kindly decided to support this important work.”

Playlist for Life is a Registered Charity founded by Sally Magnuson in 2013 after witnessing the effect of music on her late mother’s dementia.

The charity provides training for family members and health professionals who work with people living with dementia so they can use music to try and unlock precious memories, restore a sense of self and strengthen relationships with family and friends.
