DURISDEER,DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY IS THE PLACE TO BE THIS WEEKEND!

There are a number of reasons to visit Durisdeer,Dumfries and Galloway  this weekend.2nd of August 2015
There’s beautiful dramatic scenery to discover at the head of the Lowther Hills and there are the Queensberry Marbles, an elaborate early 18th century Carrara marble memorial built in honour of the Second Duke of Queensberry and his wife Mary.

Moreover, on Sunday the annual Kirkbride Conventicle takes place high up in the old kirkyard alongside the ruins of Kirkbride Church.
This open air-style preaching was held regularly in secret between the Covenanter wars and revived in 1957 under the late Rev Bill Scott, minister of Durisdeer.
After the service many participants warm up with a tea at the church.
The famous Durisdeer teas are served every Sunday in the kirk over the summer and run until 27 September.
It is here that visitors to the ancient pilgrim route stop-over can sample the delights of a wide range of home baked produce by the ladies of the local guild, from scones, fresh sandwiches, cakes, tray bakes and Mrs Scott’s celebrated cream meringues.
The Conventicle takes place at 3pm and Durisdeer church is open for teas from 2.30pm to 5.30pm every Sunday.
