YOU CAN BECOME A ‘GOOD NEIGHBOUR’ WITH THE NEW DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY LIBRARY SERVICES CARD SCHEME

Dumfries and Galloway Library Services are delighted to announce a new Good Neighbour Membership Card to help everyone in the community borrow library books. The Good Neighbour scheme provides individuals with a separate library card to borrow books on behalf of a friend, neighbour or relative who has difficulty getting to a library. The Good Neighbour can choose any lending books from our stock, including Audio CDs and Large Print, for free.

The Good Neighbours scheme will help local people to support potentially vulnerable or isolated members of our community by providing continued access to books. Reading is a great source of enjoyment and relaxation with proven benefits for mental wellbeing.

Through the Good Neighbour scheme, people will also benefit from the social interaction of borrowing books from the library, even if they are unable to visit a library themselves.

Councillor Tom McAughtrie, chairman of the customer and community services committee, said ‘this is a great opportunity for people in our communities to continue borrowing to a range of books which can help them to maintain their interests, while also benefitting socially from visits from a Good Neighbour. I would welcome people to consider if they know someone who would appreciate being brought books regularly’.
