Newly elected MSP Emma Harper has used her first parliamentary motion to commend the Robert Burns World Federation.
The south of Scotland MSP – who is also President of the Dumfries Ladies Burns Club No.1 – submitted the motion acknowledging the organisation as a leading authority in promoting the work of Burns.
The RBWF consists of 242 clubs from across the world which include Dumfries Ladies Burns Club #1, Halton Peel Burns club in Oakville, Ontario and Dunedin Burns Club in New Zealand.
MSP’s from across the political parties have supported the motion recognising the importance of promoting the works of Burns and cultivating the Scots language.
Ms Harper commented:
“The life and works of Robert Burns have always been a passion of mine. Burns has been integral to preserving Scots language which is something I feel strongly about.
“I have been involved in organising Burns suppers for many years and wanted to recognise the hard work of the members who keep the Burns tradition alive in Scotland and across the world.”
