Nith Inshore Rescue would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the local community, businesses, and individuals who have rallied behind the charity following its recent appeal for financial support.
Jamie Milligan, Treasurer of Nith Inshore Rescue, said:
“We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve received over the past few weeks. Thanks to the generosity of those who have donated, shared our appeal, and stood by us, we’re now in a much more stable position to continue our vital work. Every single donation has made a real difference, and we can’t thank the community enough.”
While the response has significantly eased immediate pressures, the charity is keen to stress that it remains short of its ideal funding position to fully meet the ongoing rise in operational costs.
“We’re not quite where we need to be,” Jamie Milligan added. “We remain heavily reliant on the continued generosity of local people and businesses to keep the lifeboat operational 24/7, 365 days a year. The cost of fuel, insurance, and maintaining our equipment remains a challenge, so any further support – especially regular monthly giving – goes a long way in helping us stay afloat.”
Peter Bryden, Chair of Nith Inshore Rescue, also expressed his appreciation:
“The response has been incredibly humbling. As a team of volunteers, we give our time freely because we care deeply about protecting lives on our nearby waters. To see that commitment reflected back by the community has been uplifting for all of us. Our operational readiness is entirely dependent on public support, and we hope people will continue to stand beside us as we look ahead. This isn’t just about a charity – it’s about local resilience, and the power of people pulling together.”
Nith Inshore Rescue, based in Glencaple, is an independent lifeboat search and rescue service, not part of the RNLI that is always on call and wholly operated by a team of highly trained and professionally equipped volunteers, protecting lives along the Solway and Dumfries and Galloway’s inland waters. The charity has responded to every callout in its 40-year history and continues to play a crucial role in the region’s emergency response and flood rescue infrastructure.
