Principal Outlines New Normal for College

Dumfries and Galloway College Principal, Joanna Campbell, has outlined her vision for the college’s post-COVID-19 future.

The Principal delivered the plan in a presentation, A New Chapter: Our College in the New Normal, given to an online audience of staff, students, stakeholders, and guests from the college’s new cutting-edge healthcare facility in Dumfries.

Students and staff will resume learning and teaching on August 31.

The college will put strict and stringent safety measures in place, and also use a mix of face-to-face teaching and online classes, to achieve the new normal when students return in Autumn.

Students also received the welcome news that the previously postponed graduation celebrations will take place at a future date.

Speaking about her commitment to her college community, the Principal also told viewers that a college-wide training programme for staff is currently underway and that virtual helpdesks for both staff and students are now available for use.

The Principal formally launched the South of Scotland college’s Ambition 2025 strategic vision at the event.

Based around five different strategies, finance and performance, growth and innovation, systems and infrastructure, people and culture, and the student experience, Ambition 2025 contains the college management dynamic and modern approach to the college’s future.

Dumfries and Galloway College has played a vital role in the South of Scotland’s response to COVID-19, by using its skills, experience, and resources to bolster the effort against the virus and encouraging many individual acts of kindness and generosity from across its college community.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“As we prepare to welcome our college community back to campus, it’s important that we make sure everyone can do so in a way that compromises on neither safety nor the student experience.

“I believe that the measures outlined in A New Chapter are exactly what we need to achieve this.

“All of us at Dumfries and Galloway College are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back and putting in the hard and rewarding work that it will take to achieve our Ambition 2025 goals.”
