Progress In Moves To Award Contract For Upper Nithsdale GP Services

Work is taking place around the awarding of a contract for the delivery of GP services in Upper Nithsdale.

This process is moving forward after a partnership of GPs at Upper Nithsdale Group Practice last November communicated plans to step down from the responsibility for its day-to-day running as of May 1 2022.

Expressions of interest have been received around taking on the contract and ensuring a continuity of service – continuing the commonly-employed model where partners hold the responsibility for running the practice.

Yesterday, NHS Dumfries and Galloway spoke with members from The Royal Burgh of Sanquhar Community Council and Kirkconnel and Kelloholm Community Council. They invited a representative from each group to sit on a panel which later this month will assemble to meet interested parties and assess bids as part of the standard procurement process.

The contract is for the continued delivery of GP services from existing bases in Sanquhar and Kelloholm, and NHS Dumfries and Galloway regards moves to see the GP contract continue in the hands of independent contractors as a very positive development.

Updates will be provided as this work continues in the hope of a fast and positive outcome.
