AN ANNAN based social enterprise, which offers affordable pre-used furniture and household goods, is going from strength to strength.
Newstart Recycle has attracted increased interest since moving from Silverlaw to larger premises at the town’s Provost Mill in Queensberry Street.
The not-for-profit organisation accepts gifts of unwanted items or carries out house clearances and then sells them at reasonable prices to the public or gives them to people in urgent need of support.
Their new multi-level premises are laid out in the style of a department store and have been attracting increased footfall from a wide area.
Newstart Recycle facilitates the re-use of high quality items, creates paid jobs and volunteering opportunities and is environmentally friendly by reducing landfill.
The organisation has also been called to help in crisis situations where people in difficulty have found themselves urgently needing to furnish a home.
And the team have helped the community in other ways, most recently providing volunteers and a truck during the Cycle to Syracuse trip from Lockerbie to Edinburgh Castle.
They supported more than a hundred cyclists carrying supplies like food and drinks to refreshment stations and transporting bikes back to Dumfriesshire at night.

has visited Newstart Recycle for a tour of the new premises and was given an update on progress.
He said: “Newstart Recycle are doing a fantastic job in providing a valuable service to the public across the district while also helping the community in other ways.
“I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the team and the excellent way they display the goods in their new larger home.”
