Suspicious fire – Lochmaben

Police Scotland officers are carrying out enquiries in Lochmaben following a fire at a garage/workshop in Castle Street at around 2300 hours on Wednesday 18 January 2017. The fire was extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service. No-one was injured in the fire however the property was extensively damaged as a result. The fire caused extensive disruption in the area and a number of houses were evacuated at the time of the blaze and a number also suffered loss of power after the fire.

Detective Sergeant Hugh McCombe said “we are treating this fire as suspicious and are carrying out door to door enquiries in the immediate area. We are keen to speak to two men who were seen in the area of the garage in Castle Street around 2300 hours last night. We also want to hear from anyone who may have been past the garage which is on Castle Street, not far from the junction with Welldale Place. Anyone who may have any information which might help us catch those responsible is asked to call us at Lockerbie on 101.
