Top Scottish prospect Jordan Buesa has joined NIHL North leaders Solway Sharks on a two way contract from the Braehead Clan of the Elite Ice Hockey League.
16-year-old Buesa from Troon in Ayrshire signed with the Clan this summer as their first apprentice and has iced in pre-season, Challenge Cup and Elite League games for the ‘Purple Army’ at the start of this season.
He previously played with the North Ayr club and has represented Scotland at age group hockey and played for the inaugural Great Britain Under 16 team at the end of last season. Now his development requires regular ice time in senior hockey, and the Clan-Sharks partnership is the ideal place for that development to continue.
Buesa will still train with the Clan during the week but will be with the Sharks at weekends so he can train and play games with the Dumfries-based club.
Braehead Clan Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers commented: “As part of the apprenticeship scheme we’ve built for Jordan, the plan was always for him to join Solway on a two way deal where he can gain valuable experience and further ice time.
“Jordan will continue to train with us during the week, travel to Dumfries on Friday and play for the Sharks over the weekend. We will be speaking with Martin [Grubb, Sharks coach] on a regular basis and when necessary will bring him back into our line-up.”
Solway Sharks head coach Martin Grubb added: “Jordan is a young player who I have known for a long time and he has a big future in the game. He has done very well so far with the Clan and has impressed people with his speed, skill and desire to succeed.
“Now it is imperative that he can continue to develop by playing games and we are happy to be part of his development. This shows the ongoing partnership between ourselves and Braehead is one that will benefit British players and we are delighted that Ryan and Gareth have trusted us to play such a big part in Jordan’s progression and we look forward to having him with us.”
Buesa will wear #12 with the Solway Sharks and will make his debut on Saturday at home to Blackburn Hawks in the NIHL North Cup. Jordan Buesa’s ‘Own & Loan’ Solway Sharks jerseys are owned by Braehead Clan.
