This year promises to be even better, with a portable Slide, Ice Rink and various funfair rides descending upon Dumfries High Street, Queensberry Square and Bank Street from 12 noon.

As well as the activities on offer for all the family, there will be on-stage entertainment on the Plainstanes from local acts throughout the afternoon, leading up to the Switch On of the lights at 6pm. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto in town for kids to give Santa their wish-lists. On top of this, for the first time ever, there will be a Disco Dome in the town centre, packed with tunes for everyone to enjoy from 10am on the morning of the 30th.
There will be a Christmas Market in Bank Street, where more than a dozen stalls will be selling hot and cold food, arts, crafts and festive goodies. The Market will be open from 10am.
The majority of shops will remain open until at least 7pm on the Monday night, with many providing shopping offers for Switch On revellers.
Chairman of Nithsdale Area Committee and Provost of Dumfries, Councillor Ted Thompson said;

“The Christmas Switch On is a well supported event and I hope the people of Dumfries will continue to enjoy it. The Christmas stalls are increasing in scope this year and this coupled with the local entertainment on offer should make for an excellent atmosphere in the town on the day. I always look forward to seeing the winners of the Christmas lights competition switching on the display and seeing their entries light up. I hope the people of Dumfries will continue to support the Switch On.”
On-stage entertainment starts at 1pm on the Plainstanes, running until 7pm.
The lights will be switched on at 6pm.
Come along on Monday 30 November and enjoy the Switch On event with your family and friends and watch Dumfries illuminate for Christmas!
