Charting a futuristic romance between a boy with a bionic heart and an insta-famous rooftop acrobat, circus, street dance, video projections and an electronic score combine in KID_X – is coming to Theatre Royal this March as part of a national Scottish tour.

Meet our guide to the future, KID_X (Malick Bright aka AndroidX, the flex and krump dance prodigy), fitted with a Lazarus Industries prototype heart, who falls for Gabriella (gymnast and acrobat, Victoria Skillen), the queen of socials.  His heart is corporate property and she’s dedicated to her millions of followers.  Dr Lazarus (prolific vocalist, Eva Lazarus) is the trailblazing CEO who’s determined to put an end to their relationship.

KID_X is a first of its kind, bringing together the creative powerhouses of Mungo’s Hi Fi, award winning directors + designers MHz, and Eva Lazarus for a slick and contemporary family friendly production where audiences can expect hand-balancing, acrobatics, urban dance, hypnotic video projections, and heavy bass.

Featuring stunning live vocals from singer-songwriter sensation Lazarus, set over bass heavy tracks produced by legendary Mungo’s Hifi, the show spans the genres of reggae, dubstep, drum’n’bass and is heavily inspired by UK sound system culture.

All the original songs featured in KID_X were written by songwriter Eva Lazarus and produced by Glasgow’s acclaimed reggae soundsystem: Mungo’s Hifi (Scotch Bonnet Records). ‘More Fyah’ – the music from KID X – has been featured as ‘BBC6 Music Album of the Day’ and ‘BBC Scotland’s Song of the Week.’

KID_X was part of the Made in Scotland showcase during Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 where it made waves with adults and young people alike. Due to Covid-19 and resulting cancellations, the show is now finally hitting the road to venues across the country.

Sabrina Leruste, Theatre Officer, Creative Scotland said: “KID_X is an exciting production, mixing urban dance and music, contemporary circus and light and sound installation. This tour presents a fantastic opportunity for Scottish audiences, particularly young people, to discover this exhilarating production and engage with dance, song writing and circus arts through the series of workshops which will accompany the tour.”
Bex Anson, Director, MHz said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing KID_X back to the stage in a Scotland wide tour.  We can’t wait to bring our unique brand of high energy street dance, circus and live music to family friendly audiences across the country.”

KID_X is supported by a Tramway Commission, Macrobert Arts Centre, Platform, NoFitState, Bassline Circus, Jackson’s Lane and Stratford Circus.Funded by Creative Scotland, PRS Foundation Open Fund, & Arts Council England. This Tour is funded by Creative Scotland’s Touring Fund for Theatre and Dance.
