Oscar Edelstein Is Live At Theatre Royal This Weekend

On Saturday April 5th OSCAR EDELSTEIN is live at Theatre Royal, Dumfries with a new composition. Oscar Edelstein says, “All my life I have been trying to cover the contradiction between the tragedy, the fiesta and the glory – Argentina’s story, epitomised by national heroes like Eva Peron and Diego Maradona.”

A child prodigy, Oscar Edelstein’s aunt, Argentine pianist Sara Zimerman, hoped to encourage him to be a classic concert pianist, but Edelstein wanted to try something different. A portable tape recorder was his first tool for composition. Now, pianist and contemporary composer, he is described as leading the avant- garde in Latin America, known for his creativity. He dares to be different.

Throughout his career, Edelstein has had close links with theatre, and is famous for his collaborations with the renowned Argentine theatre director, Roberto Villanueva, working with him on over twenty Productions.

Edelstein is senior professor and co-founder of the degree in Music Composition in Acoustic and Electro Acoustics, at the University of Quilmes.

Welsh multimedia artist and vocalist,
DEBORAH CLAIRE PROCTER is live with Oscar Edelstein at the Theatre Royal Dumfries on Saturday 5th of April. Now based in Argentina, it’s nearly two decades since she last performed in the UK. Deborah Claire Procter adds, ‘The poetic quality of Oscar’s music, while stamped through with Latin America, creates a kind of dreaming and new thinking.’
Of her own work, she says she has been compared to Cathy Berberian and Lauren Newton… adding that no comparisons are fair on either side. The critics in Argentina have been very generous. I’ve been performing with Oscar’s ensemble, Ensamble Nacional del Sur in many key venues in Buenos Aires. Since I made videos for the operas, “El Caballo Fantasma”, and “La Carta Imaginaria” (for the Latin American Contemporary Opera Cycle) by Oscar, I understand much more about the production and singing with his direction has op-ed up for me extending the limits of the voice.
