Scottish Wildlife Trust Dragonfly Day at Barstobrick
July 13 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) is holding a “Dragonfly Day” at Barstobrick Visitor on Saturday, 13th July. Members of the SWT will be there all day to show off the wealth of wildlife that can be found at Barstobrick including Dragonflies, Damselflies, Butterflies, Moths other wildlife.
The ponds at Barstobrick are great for Dragonflies which is why the event is called “Dragonfly Day”. We plan to put on a family-friendly event including: Moth Trapping, Dragonfly Watch, Pond Dipping and Guided Wildlife Walks. We will also have a display about Dragonflies and the SWT inside the Coffee Shop.
Dragonflies are great to watch. You can see them feeding in the morning over the marshland, occasionally swooping to catch their prey. Later in the day they tend to move towards the pools to find a mate. The males defend their territories from other males quite vigorously and, if you are lucky, you may see a male catch hold of a female, or discover a female laying her eggs in the water.
The event is free!! So do come along, bring your family, and join us and have some food and a cup of coffee in the Coffee Shop, and enjoy the Dragonflies!!
Barstobrick is on the A762, just off the A75, one mile north of Ringford (halfway between Castle Douglas and Gatehouse). The event will run from 10am till 4pm.
