The Royal Burgh of Dumfries Tattoo Postponed Until 2022

The Royal Burgh of Dumfries Tattoo have today announced the rescheduling of the 2021 Tattoo, in light of ongoing COVID uncertainty.

In an announcement from the Board of Directors posted on Social Media, the Royal Burgh of Dumfries Tattoo: originally set to expand and launch this year on The Crichton Estate, Dumfries – has been rescheduled for the second time.

The Tattoo has been held bi-annually since 2012, and has entertained over 4500 individuals: and supported over 1000 performers. The Tattoo has grown from a small community event, to become the pinnacle of Scottish Entertainment in the South of Scotland: attracting many International Visitors to the region.

The announcement cited “the current circumstances and increasing uncertainty with the ongoing COVID crisis” and the “protection of the public and our performers” as the reasoning behind this recent decision.

In a further communication to key stakeholders, Sales & Marketing Director Lyle Hamilton gave assurances that the “rescheduling will allow us to grow and develop the Tattoo”, in addition to committing to “continuing to provide a high level of support to the local community, and championing the best talent Dumfries & Galloway has to offer.”

Commenting on the next steps for the Tattoo – Stuart Robb, Chairperson noted: “As a newly registered charity we are dedicated to supporting the local community; bringing value to the local area; and putting the artistic talents of Dumfries and Galloway at the forefront of minds – all in safe, controlled, and family orientated environments.”

This rescheduling comes as many event organisations across the country grapple with their 2021 plans: desperately trying to balance the threat of COVID, with the stress being placed on our Events, Tourism and Hospitality Sectors.

With the 2022 date being announced as Saturday the 30th of April, the Tattoo Board already have their sights on a spectacular launch on The Crichton Estate – with the Tattoo itself being performed in the backdrop of the historic Crichton Church, and performers from across the region and beyond already committing to performing.

Commenting on the continued support The Tattoo have received from The Crichton Trust, William Gillon-Maxwell, Operations Manager added: “We are grateful to The Crichton Trust, our Venue Sponsor, for their sponsorship and ongoing support – as well as their continued understanding as we work our way through this period of uncertainty.”
Gwilym Gibbons, Chief Executive, The Crichton Trust added: “After months of working closely with The Tattoo, we were naturally disappointed that the event could not go ahead as planned in 2020, but the safety of everyone involved was, and remains a top priority.  We will continue to support the Tattoo Team in any way we can and we look forward to welcoming you all to the first Royal Burgh of Dumfries Tattoo here at The Crichton in April 2022.  It will be worth waiting for!”

Tickets for the 2022 Event will not be released until 2021: however, up until the 31st of December 2020, anyone with a valid 2020 ticket will have the option to exchange their tickets for a pre-ordered 2022 Ticket, at no additional charge: by contacting the Midsteeple Dumfries on 01387 253383.
