SUMMARY:Fara
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 7th September\, CatStrand\n7.30pm \nFollowing their debut release Cross the Line in 2016\, Orcadian folk Quartet FARA are\ntouring the UK with material from their second album\, Times from Times Fall. Comprised\nentirely of self-penned songs and instrumental tracks\, FARA will celebrate the community\nwhich inspired them to become musicians – an album rooted in the spirit of the Orkney\nIsles and its people\, it combines the unique Orkney fiddle tradition with contemporary\nand original songs and tunes. \nWith the mission of creating something entirely new and collaborative\, the four\nmembers of FARA have co-written many of the melodies on the album\, blending all four\ndistinctively different musical voices together\, whilst also celebrating the unity of their\nmusical beginnings. The songs incorporate words by Orcadian poets: George McKay\nBrown\, Edwin Muir and Christina Costie\, as well as one original and one traditional text.\nThe Orcadian imagery running through these songs\, alongside new melodies brimming\nwith the islands’ tradition whilst also pointing in new directions\, celebrates the everexpanding\nOrcadian folk tradition. Fara’s new album is set to excite and delight. \n\n

SUMMARY:Story Yoga for Preschoolers and their Adults at Moat Brae
DESCRIPTION:Story Yoga for Preschoolers and their Adults with Becky Fisher \nStory Yoga at Moat Brae is a regular drop in class for children that combines yoga and storytelling. Yoga is an ancient form of movement\, breath and mindful awareness and this acts as the ‘teacher’ of stories. Story Yoga is held in the playful and spacious Garden Room at Moat Brae.\nThe physical space is bright\, soothing and natural. \nIn Story Yoga for Preschoolers and Parents\, we teach stories through yoga to create lasting bonds between parent and child at an important stage of their early life development and help create peaceful\, healthy and literate young minds! Classic early years tales like Peter Pan and more modern stories encourage the children to be confident\, wild and expressive as we go through the key points of the story. Story Yoga ends with a magically calming relaxation with the parent or carer.\nBook your places at Moat Brae Reception \n£6 per session (covers adult and child)\nFor under 5’s \n\n

SUMMARY:Clybourne Park
DESCRIPTION:“How many white men does it take to change a light bulb?” \nRapture Theatre Presents: CLYBOURNE PARK by Bruce Norris \nBook Tickets \nRapture Theatre\, after its critically acclaimed productions of The Red Lion and A Streetcar Named Desire\, makes a welcome return to Theatre Royal Dumfries. \nIt’s 1959 and President Eisenhower is in the White House. Bev and Russ are moving after the tragic death of their son\, and they have inadvertently sold their house to the neighbourhood’s first black family. \nFifty years later\, in 2009\, with the first Black President just having taken office\, a young white couple buy the same house in what is now a predominantly black neighbourhood. \nIn both instances\, racial tensions escalate\, the stakes are raised and the play asks the question: have our attitudes to race really changed? \nWinner of the Pulitzer Prize\, Tony and Olivier Award for Best Play and hailed as “shockingly entertaining” and “appallingly funny”\, Clybourne Park is a razor-sharp satire about the politics of race. \nThe cast features Robin Kingsland (Rapture’s The Browning Version and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?)\, popular Scottish performer Jackie Morrison\, leading Royal Shakespeare Company actress Frances McNamee\, Adelaide Obeng (Not Bound Within for The Albany)\, Benjamin Stratton (The 39 Steps)\, Jack Lord (War Horse for National Theatre)\, Steven Scott Fitzgerald (The Browning Version) and Vinta Morgan (The Merchant of Venice for Almedia Theatre). \nDirection Michael Emans; Design Ken Harrison; Lighting Design Laura Hawkins; Music and Sound Design Pippa Murphy \n\n

SUMMARY:'What’s Your Story?' at Moat Brae
DESCRIPTION:What’s Your Story?\nWednesdays 2-3PM (Starting Wednesday 3rd July 2019)\nThe Garden Room\, Moat Brae \nWe all have a story. You have a story\, I have a story\, the nice lady behind the counter in the chemist has a story\, and if we were all able to tell our stories we’d never be lonely again. It’s our shared stories that make us human\, and help us connect with other people. \nIn What’s Your Story? We will explore how to pick the words\, and shape the sentences that will bring your story to vivid life.\nEryl Gasper Dick is a highly experienced creative writing teacher\, educator and Literary Ambassador. She has a deep love for the rhythms that can be made by putting words together and is passionate about the process of writing. It is through these sessions that she hopes to help other writers\, regardless of age or experience\, access their creativity\, and to realise the beauty in their own writing. \n\n

SUMMARY:Gregory's Girl
DESCRIPTION:Gregory’s Girl is a 1981 film written and directed by Bill Forsyth (of Local Hero fame). It is a romantic Scottish comedy which deals with the awkwardness and confusion of teenage life and love with empathy and understanding. \nGawky teenager Gregory loses his place as striker in the school’s shambolic football team but soon finds comfort with the arrival of new star signing Dorothy. “She’s ab-sol-ute-ly gorgeous”\, he exclaims to his equally girl-obsessed mates. He sets out to win her heart but when he finally gets his dream date there’s a surprise in store for Gregory. \nThe film stars Gordon John Sinclair\, Dee Hepburn and Clare Grogan. Look out for Chic Murray in a cameo role! \nIf you are housebound and live in the Moffat area free transport is available 01683 220367 or 07804 656167 \n\n
