How many of you have traveled along the A75 through the Stewartry village of Crocketford over the years and admired the array of giant bronzes and garden statues on display at the front door of ‘Brass Tacks ? Have you ever stopped to see the inside of this Aladdin’s cave full of delights ? This small family owned business is now celebrating it’s 30th year of trading in Dumfries and Galloway.
Owners Steven and his wife Judith have between them 67 years’ experience in the trade and pride themselves in offering the best customer service, honesty, advice and workmanship they possibly can.
Stephen told DGWGO “As with all businesses we have overcome so much, such as dips in the economy, changes in the industry, changing with the times, expanding and always trying to be different. Along the way supporting our community, who have always supported us.
I entered the upholstery trade straight from school and served a traditional five-year apprenticeship in Cheshire, a county rich with antiques and high class furniture. I gained a wealth of experience and developed an absolute passion for traditionally crafted upholstered furniture.
In 1984, my wife and I moved north of the border to beautiful Dumfries and Galloway and in 1986, founded Brass Tacks Upholstery Services at The Garrel Scool at Courance near Parkgate.”
Stephen went on to say “Since 1987, we have held membership of the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers and are very proud to be connected to the industry’s premier association, which gives prospective customers a peace of mind, knowing that their beloved furniture is in good hands.”
“In 1993, Brass Tacks moved into our current premises in Crocketford, where the retail of furniture, bronzes, lighting and decorative items expanded to become a major part of the business. This runs along-side our established upholstery business of traditional, modern and bespoke furniture and upholstery classes.
With this, our 30th year in business, things look set for it to be a great year, with exciting family adventures and new projects round every corner.
