What You’ll Do Day-to-Day
As a Business Development Adviser within Business Gateway in the Scottish Borders, you’ll provide a high quality 1-2-1 business advisory service to pre-start-ups, start-ups and early stage SMEs to help them maximise their potential, in turn, helping to build the Scottish Borders’ business base and enhance Economic Impact.
We’ll need you to be pro-active and visible in the local area, working to identify which businesses have untapped potential and/or need your support and which could have a more positive economic impact in the Borders. You’ll help them with all aspects of their business, including responding to opportunities and challenges and in doing so will work with a range of partners in both the public and private sectors supporting the development of an entrepreneurial culture and business base.
The Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes You’ll Need to Have
We are looking for passionate, commercially minded individuals who have experience of providing 1-2-1 business support to SMEs and who have the ability to demonstrate credibility, including understanding the issues faced by businesses and their customers. It goes without saying that your relationship management, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills will be exceptional. You’ll need to be flexible in your approach to evolving operational requirements and be able to embrace the dynamic nature of our growing organisation.
You should also be able to demonstrate:
Experience of understanding business diagnostic reviews and knowledge of appropriate business analytical tools
Good knowledge of economic development factors impacting the South of Scotland.
Good knowledge of the business support environment in Scotland and of Scottish Government policy and priorities in this area.
Analytical and presentational skills
Report writing skills
It would also be really helpful if you:
Have experience of running your own business
Have a good understanding and knowledge of one or more of the sectors relevant to the South of Scotland
What We’ll Offer You
We offer a competitive and varied reward package, designed to cover your wellbeing, your lifestyle, your working life and your future, including 43 days holiday annually and a generous pension contribution. Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range, except in exceptional circumstances. We want to make sure that what we offer helps you to fit your work around your life, not the other way around.
At South of Scotland Enterprise, we celebrate and support differences. We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, colour, ancestral heritage, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity and expression, or veteran status.
