£750 Raised for ‘End Polio Now’ at Kirkcudbright District Annual Schools’ Concert

On Wednesday the 21st March the Annual Schools’ Concert supporting the Kirkcudbright Rotary Club, “End Polio Now” project, took place in the Cochran Hall at Kirkcudbright Academy. A large audience of parents, Rotarians and other supporters were enthralled by the diversity and talent of the young people who were all drawn from the Kirkcudbright group of cluster schools, namely Borgue, Gatehouse, Kirkcudbright and Twynholm Primary Schools as well as Kirkcudbright Academy.

Teachers from the various schools contributed to a very lively programme showcasing their students’ talents in song and through instrumental performance. A choir conducted by Kate Picken and consisting of a number of staff members, gave a powerful rendition of the Ed Shearing number ‘Photograph’ . The compere and ever enthusiastic cheer leader Hannah Gill, music teacher at the Academy, enthused as her pupils enthralled the audience.

Grateful thanks must be extended to all who contributed to the success of the evening.  As well as Hannah Gill and Kate Picken and the many teachers from the cluster schools, Youth Rotary Chairman John Frew and Vice Chairman Andy Courtnadge deserve special mention. However, it will be the young singers and instrumentalists who will be long remembered by the appreciative audience.

Once again the concert was a financial success raising over £750 for ‘End Polio Now’ and Kirkcudbright Rotary Club continues to be most grateful to Kirkcudbright Academy for its ongoing support for this and other Rotary charities.
