Dumfries Indie Rock four-piece ‘The Lutras’ are calling on fans to help support them in Firestone’s Road to the Main Stage competition. The competition will give the band a chance to play the mainstage at a leading festival next year, as well as a variety of other prizes which will kick-start their musical career.
The Lutras formed in 2013 in Dumfries and is made up of four boys: Thomas Gillan, Danny Heron, Ben Clements and Finlay Maxwell, who are all trying to make their dream work alongside their day jobs. They’ve made a name for themselves across not only Scotland but also across the UK where they’ve toured numerous venues as an unsigned band.
The band has recently released their single ‘Vari’, alongside it’s emotive B-side ‘Times We Had’, a piano demo of their much-loved live tune. The competition, along with their upcoming releases, sparks an exciting journey for the band. As well as this, they’re also embarking on a headline tour of the UK with This Feeling, which culminates with an impressive show in Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s on the 29th November 2019.
The competition, which has been running for the past five years, seeks to give up and coming artists the chance to bring their music to new audiences. It is supported by Professional Music Technology, Orange Amps and Abbie McCarthy, a radio and TV presenter. The final eight artists were chosen from over 900 entries across the UK, however, it is the first year where the final stage of the competition has been judged by a public vote and so getting every vote from supportive fans is crucial.
Other prizes for the festival include a VW Transporter van for a year to get them from show to show, instore credit for Professional Music Technology store, new equipment from Orange Amplification and more.
The Lutras have appealed to their audiences to vote in the competition but they have made sure you get something in return for your support. Teaming up with Dumfries based Vanity Rose, a beauty salon and Core Fitness who are giving you the chance to win a set of GHD Straighteners and a 3 Month Membership if you vote for the band.
Speaking on behalf of the band, Danny Heron bassist and songwriter said “We’re absolutely buzzing to be here. We want to get past the days of cramming our gear into a Fiat Punto and Firestone’s Road to the Main Stage might just give us that opportunity.
“We are still doing so much off our own backs so we need to find some stepping stones to get to that next stage. We want to get in a big van and drive off somewhere to places we’ve never played before. Maybe we will be able to do this soon.”
The competition is open until 13th November and every vote until that moment is crucial. You can vote via their website www.firestone.roadtothemainstage.co.uk, but remember to verify your vote in the email so your vote counts towards the competition.
