STATUS QUO TO PLAY AT PALMERSTON PARK THIS JUNE

Queen of the South Football Club are delighted have announced that later this year Palmerston Park will be the venue for a concert by one of the World`s best known bands Status Quo.

Quo who hold the record for more hit singles than any other band both international and British in UK Chart history will take a break from their European acoustic tour to be the first band ever to play at the Dumfries venue. With total world-wide record sales exceeding 118 million units, the band are well known and loved by all age groups around the world.

The club are hosting the concert on the 5th of June in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council and Worldwide Events. Club Chairman, Billy Hewitson said “It`s the first such event for the club. First and foremost the name Queen of the South will be recognised as a football club, but Palmerston Park is an asset that the football club have and we have to utilise the facility. We are delighted to have a band of Status Quo`s stature for our first concert, but we hope it`s the first of many“.

 

The Commercial team have worked hard to get the event organised, commercial manageress, Victoria Thomson is delighted that years of hard work are about to come to fruition “A concert has been in the pipeline for the last three years, but with work on the playing surface, we`re only now being able to host one. We are excited to be associated with one of the biggest bands in the world. Not only is it fantastic for the club, it`s fantastic for Dumfries & Galloway and beyond. We hope that the bands supporters will enjoy the facilities Palmerston can offer.”

Speaking on behalf of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Councillor Colin Smyth said ” The Council is delighted to support Queen of the South in staging this concert. Having successfully delivered events such as Youthbeatz and World Championship Sports Competitions for a number of years our staff have developed expertise in developing and staging major events. We are happy to share our knowledge with partners because events such as this are not only fantastic for the local community to enjoy but they can bring significant benefits to the local economy“.

Andrew Lennie of Worldwide Events added “I am delighted to be involved in what will be one of the biggest musical events of the summer in south-west Scotland. The existing infrastructure at Palmerston Park, together with an enhanced stage, sound and light package, and the can-do attitude of Queen of the South FC ensured that we were successful in confirming our first choice act for an event that will hopefully become an annual occasion.”
