Drumlanrig Castle Is Set To Sparkle For Christmas

The majestic Dumfriesshire Castle, affectionately nicknamed the ‘Pink Palace’, will be lit up green and sprinkled with Christmas magic as the Estate hosts a Christmas Fair weekend for all the family.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Drumlanrig Castle, the Fair’s festive marquee will be a hive of activity with an array of festive craft, gift and food stalls on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 December.

For something extra special, artistic youngsters can enter the Estate’s art competition with the lucky winner picked to switch on the Christmas lights on the Friday night. Local school pupils have been invited to enter with all submissions collected from Monday 27 November.

Drumlanrig’s Christmas Fair takes place on Friday 1 December from 4pm-8pm and Saturday 2 December from 11am-5pm. Entry costs £5 per car.

The Nithsdale Choir will spread some Christmas cheer to all as they sing carols on the Friday evening.

Visitors on Saturday can be entertained with a special appearance from Blackstone Clydesdales offering rides of the Estate grounds.

Families can also enjoy a hot mug of soup or delicious turkey and stuffing baguette in the cosy Castle Tearoom which will open specially for the event. The perfect pairing to a hot chocolate and gingerbread or cinnamon latte can also be found in the shape of warm mince pies and shortbread too.

For an extra touch of tradition, the Tearoom will also be serving warm mulled wine over the weekend.

No Christmas event would be complete without a visit from Mr Claus himself, so children can pop into Drumlanrig’s grotto to meet Santa Claus and share their wishes for this year.

Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “It really is a magical time of year and we’re excited to pass the honour of switching on our Christmas lights to local children. There will be a host of stalls, festive food and activities to keep everyone entertained during their visit and help share the spirit of the season. We can’t wait to welcome families and visitors of all ages to our Christmas market this year.”

Drumlanrig’s Christmas Fair takes place on Friday 1 December from 4pm-8pm and Saturday 2 December from 11am-5pm. Entry costs £5 per car.

On Saturday 2 December, Drumlanrig will also host a Santa Dash fun run encouraging people of all ages to don their very own red suit, hat and white beard to complete the 5k route.

Entry costs £2 per adult and £1 per child with registration from 10am and start time of 11am.
