Winners in the Frame for Drumlanrig Castle Photography Competition

Three lucky winners have been picked from more than 400 images that were submitted to a recent competition run by a local photography Dumfries & Galloway through a Lens, in association with Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate.

The local photography group – who created the competition alongside one of the region’s top visitor destinations – is an online community for photographers to share images and advice with like-minded enthusiasts.

The popular competition had a Castle Gardens theme, inspired by Drumlanrig Castle, and encouraged budding and novice photographers to submit up to ten images that had been taken within the grounds of the Estate.

The number of entrants was limited to one hundred with the applicants given a limited edition badge from the local photography group and a special pass for access to the Dumfriesshire Estate to take their pictures. Entrants submitted their images throughout the month of April before shortlist was announced on Friday 28 April.

James Johnstone, claimed first prize (Main Image) of a £50 restaurant voucher for the Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel in Thornhill. Sheila Stubbs and Matt Currie were named runners up and both received a 2017 family season pass for Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate. The winner will also have their work displayed at the Castle which is host to artwork from some of the world’s top artists from all different disciplines.

We have been so impressed with the creative and stunning submissions that were taken around the Estate, it was very difficult to pick our winners.
