LOCAL MP DELIGHTED WITH SUCCESS OF WIGTOWN BOOK FESTIVAL

Dumfries & Galloway MP Russell Brown praised all organisers and volunteers after spending time at the Wigtown Book Festival this Wednesday (1st October) in Scotland’s national book town. He attended an event hosted by Wigtownshire born BBC reporter Allan Little who discussed which books he would take to a desert island, and also spoke about his career.

The annual book festival is celebrating its 16th year this year and continues to generate a vast amount of revenue for the local economy.

Dumfries and Galloway Council gave a grant of £37,000 to the Wigtown Festival Company for the 2014 Book Festival.

Commenting on his visit, Russell Brown MP said:

“This is a fantastic event which I look forward to year in, year out. It’s a huge boost to the local area and the Dumfries & Galloway Council are to be congratulated on their continued support and investment in the festival. I understand how much time and effort goes into organising and running such an event and it’s great to see the hard work paying off. Well done to all organisers and volunteers!”
