Celebrating Community and Team Spirit at Colvend & Kirkgunzeon Partnership Sports Day

Pupils, families, and staff from Colvend and Kirkgunzeon Primary Schools came together today for a joyful and action-packed Partnership Sports Day, held at Colvend Primary School.

The event kicked off with potted sports in the morning, where mixed teams of pupils from both schools rotated through a series of fun and inclusive athletic challenges. In the afternoon, the excitement continued with traditional track and field races, cheered on by a lively crowd of family, friends, and community members.

Adding to the festive spirit, even the youngest members of the school families had their moment to shine in a toddler race – a crowd favourite and heartwarming highlight of the day.

This sports day is about more than just competition,” said Aleksandra Stores, Joint Headteacher of both schools. “It’s about building friendships, celebrating effort, and strengthening the wonderful partnership between our two schools. Events like this not only bring our pupils together, but also highlight the vital role our school plays in the wider Colvend community.”

The partnership between Colvend and Kirkgunzeon Primary Schools continues to offer pupils meaningful opportunities to connect, collaborate, and develop a shared sense of belonging beyond the classroom.

One P6 pupil reflected on the experience:

“I loved being in a team with children from Kirkgunzeon. We worked together and cheered for each other—it felt like we were all one big school.”

The success of the day was made possible by the dedicated staff teams, the supportive parent community, and the incredible enthusiasm of the pupils.

A celebration of sport, community, and connection – the Partnership Sports Day is set to remain a cherished tradition.
