Queen of the South Ladies were dealt a blow even before their first playoff game kicked off against St Mirren on Sunday, when they were told that 2 of their signed players could not play because of an error in the new SWF Comet registration system.
Striker Hayley Crosbie and Macy Zygadlo were told by the referee that as their names didn’t appear on the SWF online database, they would not be allowed to take the field.
With a number of players already unavailable due to holidays, this left Queens with only a single sub, and if they thought things were bad, they rapidly got worse when St Mirren opened the scoring after only 11 minutes and added another two goals before half time.
St Mirren stretched their lead to 4-0 before Queens captain Charlotte Smith pulled one back with 7 minutes to go. St Mirren grabbed a fifth goal just before the referee blew for time. Final score St Mirren 5 Queens.
This Sunday Queens take on Armadale Thistle at Palmerston. Kick off is at 2pm and admission is £2 (U16s free).
