Queens U15 Blues had their penultimate league fixture at NWCC on Saturday, taking on Threave Rovers U15 Girls.

With Queens confirmed as league runners up, the pressure was off, and the girls responded with an excellent performance.  With only 4 minutes gone, striker Lois Geddes opened the scoring, bundling the ball into the net despite the attentions of the Threave defence. With Queens dominating the midfield, it wasn’t long before another goal arrived, midfielder Bronwyn Davies powering into the box to hammer the ball home.

Threave composed themselves & tried to play football, but they struggled to get beyond the strong Queens defence, with left back Abbie Cairns in superb form, closing down every attempt by Threave to come forward down their right wing, Mya Meechan pushing forward at every opportunity on the right, and the regular centre back pairing of Kayleigh Telfer & Chloe Maxwell dealing with any long balls through the centre.

Queens continued to press but although they created numerous chances, the strikers were unable to convert them, although they came close on several occasions, with 2 long range shots by Holly Ovens going just past the post.  It wasn’t until the 35th minute that Queens scored again, the 3rd goal coming direct from a corner on the left, Freya Brown curling the ball in at the far post with theThreave defence static.

Into the second half and in the absence of regular goalkeeper Sophie Ingram, striker Lois Geddes took over in goal from first half keeper Ally Brown who moved into midfield.  Queens continued to press, with Cairn Houliston creating a number of chances with her crosses from the right hand side, and it was one of these that led to the 4th goal when a perfect cross across the face of the goal rebounded off a Theave defender and into the net. Next up was Maisie Copland who danced round several defenders before hitting a fierce drive into the far corner.  The scoring was completed in the 66th minute when Freya Brown’s high looping cross from the right dropped over the keeper and into the far side of the goal.  Final score 6-0 to Queens.

This was an excellent performance by Queens, who now move on to the final league game of the season which is a Doonhamer Derby against Queens U15 Whites on Saturday morning at NWCC.  KO time tbc but probably 1030.
