Essential Woodland Management To Be Carried Out On The A77 Between Ballantrae & Cairnryan

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking the essential removal of dangerous and diseased trees on the A77 at Glenapp Church, between Ballantrae and Cairnryan, from Saturday 25th March until Tuesday 28th March 2023.

This scheme forms part of our Tree and Woodland Maintenance Management Strategy where we are taking essential steps to combat the effects of Ash Dieback along our road network. It benefits vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway and reducing the risk that diseased trees pose to road users.

The work will be carried out using daytime closures at this location, between the hours of 7:30am and 19:00pm, on Saturday 25th March and Sunday 26th March 2023. A signed diversion will be in operation.

In addition, to complete the safe removal of the trees, temporary traffic lights will be installed and will be in operation between the hours of 7am and 7pm on Monday 27th March and Tuesday 28th March 2023 at Glenapp.

The signed diversion will operate as follows:

  • A77 southbound traffic will be diverted to exit the A77 at Shallochpark Roundabout onto the A714. From here, traffic will proceed to North Barnkirk, turning right onto the unclassified road to South Barnkirk and will then turn right onto the A75 to continue in a westerly direction towards Stranraer. Traffic will then take the A751 to Innermessan and will rejoin the A77 northbound towards Cairnryan.
  • A77 northbound traffic will take the A77 southbound and turn left onto the A75, before turning left onto the A75 eastbound towards Newton Stewart. From here, traffic will turn left onto the unclassified road at South Barnkirk, then left onto the A714 at North Barnkirk and will rejoin the A77 at Shallochpark Roundabout.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
