CATSTRAND LAUNCH TWO YOUTH TRAINING PROJECTS

Two exciting new youth arts projects have just launched at CatStrand, New Galloway. The first is a traineeship programme. This is a free, ten week training programme for those aged 16-25 focussed on event production, programming and technical skills. The second is a youth-led record label. Young people between the ages of 12 and 25 can come along and record, release and market a single and music video with the help of our expert tutors. Spaces are limited, but will be available for both programmes throughout 2016.

A series of one-off workshops, masterclasses and seminars will be added throughout 2016 and advertised on the website. www.catstrand.com

CatStrand Youth Training Programme
What is it?

A traineeship at CatStrand is a great opportunity for those interested in the arts or events to learn more from professionals. CatStrand will give young people the chance to participate in a ten week, in-house, training programme. Trainees will learn all the skills required to support the team at CatStrand present live music events. Participants can choose from two areas of focus: “technical production” and “event management”.

Technical production trainees will learn how to set up, maintain and operate sound and lighting systems in a concert setting. Participants will go on to work with a real band, at a real gig!

Event management trainees will learn everything needed to run an event from booking bands and artists, to budgeting, box office, PR and promotion and will put this all to use booking and running a real event.

The project will form an important step towards a youth-led series of events throughout 2016.

Who is it for?

This opportunity is available for anyone between the ages of 16 and 25 with an interest in the performing arts – particularly in the technical production and event management fields. It may be of particular interest to those building a portfolio to use as part of future academic or professional applications.

What is in it for you?

This may be exposure to new skills and knowledge or may let young people apply existing experience in a professional setting. Trainees can add this body of work to applications for further education, employment or portfolios. Aside from this, the project can be great for networking! Trainees will begin to contribute to the cultural landscape around them – from selecting shows to having a say in the content and can use this to extend their own networks and outlook. What support will we offer?

CatStrand will provide experienced tutors to guide trainees through their selected field. They’ll be on hand to answer questions and provide support and guidance as well as introduce a series of workshops, seminars and practical masterclasses. Feedback and evaluation is also given wherever possible.

We can also help with travel expenses to get you too and from CatStrand.

CatStrand – Youth Record Label
What is it?

Stranded Cat records is a youth-led, independent, record label based at CatStrand, New Galloway. The label enables young people to record their own music and release it, with the help and guidance of tutors, to get a taste of what it is like to put a record out. The label will take on a range of artists, of all genres, throughout the year – each recording a two track single and producing a music video.

This can safeguard young artists against the pitfalls of a complex business and give an overview of what to look out for before going it alone.

Who is it for?

This opportunity is available for anyone between the ages of 12 and 25 with an interest in music or media. It may be of particular interest to those looking to record their own music or for those looking at releasing existing recordings. The project welcomes those looking to get involved in other areas of producing music such as recording engineers, graphic designers and film-makers. All abilities are catered for on an individual basis. What is in it for you? Get your music written, recorded and released! Learn a little along the way and open doors to future musical endeavours!

What support will we offer?

Catstrand will provide access to a suite of music making, film making and recording studio facilities as well as access to experienced tutors to help get things started. They’ll be on hand to answer questions and provide support and guidance as well as introduce a series of workshops, seminars and practical masterclasses. Feedback is also given wherever possible.
