Dumfries Ice Bowl turns 25 this September and is celebrating with a free Open Day on Saturday 9 September 2017, from 11am to 3pm [1100 to 1500].
Everyone is invited to come along and see what the Ice Bowl has to offer, try ice sports for free, and meet the mascots.
Once home to 1 ice rink and a bowling hall, the Ice Bowl now has 2 rinks that are used for curling, ice hockey and ice skating.
The curling, ice hockey and skating clubs will also share their achievements over the last 25 years and meet visitors on the day.
Visitors will also be able to relax in the venue’s café, overlooking the skating rink.
Councillor Jeff Leaver, chair of the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning [CYPLL] committee, and vice-chair Ros Surtees, said: “Over the past 25 years, Dumfries Ice Bowl has developed to meet changing needs and now hosts a wide variety of national and international events, including world championships. As a result, it is well known far beyond the borders of our region. Thank you to all involved over the years in developing this fantastic facility. We look forward to it continuing to develop.”
From 3pm [1500] there will be 2 ice hockey matches. The first will be a memorial game in tribute to life-long ice hockey fan Bobby Carruth, who died recently. The game will involve past and present players in tribute to Bobby and entry is free.
This match will be followed by a Solway Sharks league game.
So, head for Dumfries Ice Bowl to celebrate its 25th birthday. The fun day will support West Sound Cash for Kids and donations can be made on the day.
