Dumfries and Galloway’s premier Dance School Body Electric Dance Studio are about to celebrate ten years of trading this March. The 13school was founded by champion dancer Louise McVie in March 2005 ,with just some 20 pupils teaching out of a community hall. Growing faster than even Louise could imagine classes were soon full. It became imperative that a permanent base was found to let ‘ BEDS’ as the kids call it to really grow . In November 2007 BEDS opened the doors to the first specially fitted dance studio in Dumfries.

Proprietor Louise states ‘ I am full of mixed emotions at the thought that we have been running for ten years .I had to sacrifice a lot to build the dance family I had envisioned and ten years on I have done exactly what I set out to do. Our mission statement is ‘believe & you can’ something we have shown our students is most certainly true ’

BEDS set up on an ethos to offer classes that were not only high quality but where kids really felt part of a family and could take found memories of their dance years into adult hood. Creating a competitive free environment where kids could build their confidence is a vital part of the running of BEDS and something that has stood strong from day one. Louise says ‘ I believe if you can instill confidence in a child then they can go along way in adult life. Many of our dancers who have now left due to moving onto university say that they are more confident because they were part of the BEDS family and feel they have the confidence to now achieve things that sometimes seem daunting’

To its students BEDS is very much a family and somewhere to feel at home. After trading for ten years Louise has saw children in they’re hundreds come through her door. Many have been so inspired by dance they have gone on to study dance further , even in some cases have set up their own schools. Ex pupil Christine Whishart who danced at BEDS until going to study further at Dance Scotland now teaches along side Louise. ‘As a teacher you should always inspire , help create and reach dreams. Having your own dancers follow in your footsteps is an achievement in itself. I am very proud of each of them, most especially Christine who is now one of my richest assets ‘.
