LOCAL MSP BACKS CHARITY SHOP’S CAMPAIGN IN DUMFRIES

Elaine Murray MSP joins British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland’s Bag it. Beat it. Campaign

Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray has shown her support for the nation’s heart charity and donated a bag of unwanted items to her local British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland shop in Dumfries as part of a new campaign aimed at funding further research into children born with heart defects.

Marjory Burns, British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland Director, said:

“We are delighted that Elaine has filled a donation bag and supported our new Bag it. Beat it. campaign. Every month, 26 children in Scotland are born with a heart defect. They account for more birth defects than combined figures for limb defects, facial problems such as cleft palate and respiratory problems. Many will have lost their lives before reaching school age.

“Each bag donated to BHF Scotland shops is estimated to be worth around £20, which could help fund laboratory costs, continuing our vital research into congenital heart disease to help save more lives.”

Elaine Murray MSP said:

“I’m glad to have played a small part to support British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland’s Bag it. Beat it. campaign to raise funds to support vital research into congenital heart disease so that more children’s lives can be saved. This is a fantastic campaign and I encourage as many people as possible to give donations where possible.”

Donations of clothes, shoes, handbags, DVDs and books are always welcome at your local BHF Scotland shop – to locate your nearest shop or find out more, visit bhf.org.uk/shops
