Dumfries Music Conference Gears Up for Weekend of Exciting Music Activity

Dumfries Music Conference will be back at The Stove Network, 100 High Street, Dumfries this weekend with two free events on Friday and Saturday evening. Both events are free and open to all! Since it was launched in 2012, Dumfries Music Conference, which is predominantly aimed at 14-30 year olds, has welcomed a huge range of people from across the music industry. DMC is now looking forward to an exciting year ahead, with this weekend being the next events within a year-long plan of projects and workshops.

On Friday 18th May, punk orchestra, Tinderbox Collective, will be back in Dumfries with their event ‘The Bigger Jam’ –a workshop on music, composition and song writing beginning at 5pm at the Stove. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or enjoy singing in the comfort of your own home, this is the chance for you to work on your own songs and jam along with the Tinderbox Orchestra!

During the workshop, participants will be invited to work on their own songs with the orchestra, with the chance to it with the whole orchestra in front of a live audience on 26th May at the Usual Place as part of the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival.

The workshop will run again at the Stove Network the following Friday. For more information, please contact [email protected] or visit the Tinderbox Collective Facebook page: www.facebook.com/tinderboxcollective.

The Bigger Jam, Friday the 18th of May at the Stove, 5pm – 8pm, and Friday the 25th, the Stove, 5pm – 8pm.

On Saturday 19th, the second DMC Social will be held at the Stove Network from 7pm. The free event will provide people the chance to meet with organisers, venues, bands and artists that make up the Dumfries music scene. Whether you’re an MC, play in a band, are a technician or run a music venue – everyone is welcome! The informal conversation will help to grow this scene, and how bands and venues can be supported to be more sustainable. DMC would also like to hear ideas about what people would like to see happen at their flagship event in October – they’re interested in suggestions for workshops, panel discussions and upcoming bands/musicians.

In the Stove’s Room 2, DMC will host ‘The demo Lounge’ where bands and artists can hear their own tracks through the Stove’s Funktion 1 sound system in the comfort of the living space. DMC invites you to come along on Saturday evening from 7pm. The event is free and BYOB.
