Armed Forces Award for Dumfries and Galloway Council

Dumfries and Galloway Council has been recognised for its support to armed forces veterans and their families, receiving the Gold Award of the Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme.

Councillor Archie Dryburgh, The Council’s Armed Forces Champion, and Lillian Cringles, Head of Social Work Services, were presented with the award by HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Councillor Dryburgh said: “Many local men and women serve in our armed forces, carrying out difficult and often dangerous tasks on our behalf and we’re very grateful for the work that they do. It’s vitally important for our armed forces to feel that they have the support of local communities and our Council demonstrates its appreciation and support for current and former service men and women. This Gold Award recognises the work that we do as a Council to support reserves, cadet force instructors, and veterans in our community. I want to thank all the Council staff who supported me in my role to ensure this award was presented to the Council. I look forward to working with other companies in the region to sign onto the Armed Forces Covenant.”
