Award Winning Crafty Distillery ‘Reinvent The Bottle’  With Release Of New Design

Crafty Distillery, Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year 2020 relaunch their multi-award winning Hills & Harbour gin in a new bottle that reduces environmental impact whilst enhancing user experience through unique design, usability and innovation.

Available from today the 15th October 2021 via select stockists as well as online at craftydistillery.com, the new design challenges the consumer on what a traditional bottle looks like and is capable of, rewarding them with unique features and re-usability.

A world first is bottle top design – the stopper is a reusable drinks measure

A truly innovative feature of the bottle is the stopper design. The extra wide neck and opening allows the incorporation of the world’s first spirit measure in a bottle top. The stopper is made from 100% cork and natural wood and is beautifully de-bossed with the Crafty Distillery logo, a Scotland shaped lightening bolt. This reusable stopper contains the 12.5ml measure, simply fill it twice to get a UK standard 25ml serve. The design is currently patent pending.

Form and function, together in one bottle

The bold and elegant glass design breaks the mould of what’s been with possible with glass, until now. The unusual shortening and widening of the neck allows the bottle to be up-cycled in creative new ways. The carefully considered, ergonomic shape makes it the perfect water carafe, flower vase and also allows a pourer or pump to be added so the bottle can be repurposed for other liquids such as a soap dispenser.

The overall glass weight has been reduced by -30% compared to their previous design and competitor bottles. This minimises environmental impact as less energy is used to create, ship and recycle the new Hills & Harbour bottle than traditional glass ones.

Owner and Founder of Crafty Distillery, Graham Taylor comments,

“Fans of out gin have always commented on the amazing taste and the beauty of our existing bottle, so we had to be very careful to retain key elements of the design whilst getting ‘crafty with the rest. The new design delivers a balance of both beauty and added functionality, such as the measure in the stopper, which we hope will improve both the drinking experience and reduce waste. Even the de-bossed illustration down the side has a purpose. It tells the story of our fields, forests and shorelines but it’s also there to provide grip whilst pouring. For us great innovation always has good reasoning behind it and that’s exactly what has driven this exciting new evolution from day one.”

The stunning bottle retains much loved elements like the iconic shifting tones of the glass itself. From deep forest green to dappled turquoise that symbolises the distillery’s unique coastal and tree-lined location in Galloway, which, both flavours and gives name to the gin. Using Noble Fir from the forests Bladderwick seaweed its coastlines, Hills & Harbour celebrates Scotland both in spirit and substance – a story cleverly illustrated throughout the new bottle design.

Graham concludes,

“Scotland has always been known for innovation, enlightenment and having good ideas. This redesign was a great opportunity to break the mould. We’re confident the end result is a bottle like no other. It proves a premium craft spirit bottle can go much further than just good looks and can continue to fly flag for innovative Scottish Spirit.”
