Laggan’s new charity initiative at its bistro Gather near Gatehouse of Fleet, has so far raised £1,200 which was donated to local fundraising cause ‘Ethan’s Journey of Smiles’. Launched in October, the initiative asked every customer at Gather to pay an additional £1 to their meal, which alongside a generous donation from Laggan, was donated to the fundraiser.
Ethan’s Journey of Smiles is a special named fund at the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group raising funds for research into Philadelphia positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. In 2021, nine year old Ethan from Newton Stewart was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia which was Philadelphia positive, a more difficult form of leukaemia to target with the harshest chemotherapy treatment plan needed.
Duncan McConchie, owner of Laggan said “it’s important for us to give back to the local community and support a charity. A simple action of adding £1 to our customer’s bills means we can make a difference to a worthy local cause. In this case, we hope that by supporting Ethan’s fundraising efforts, we can contribute to the research needed to develop kinder treatment plans for children like Ethan”.
For November’s charity of the month, Laggan is fundraising for Wigtownshire Women and Cancer. Laggan would like to hear from locals with charity suggestions based in Dumfries & Galloway for future months. If you have a suggestion, please email [email protected].
