Stewartry Victory Sees 4th Win In A Row Against Irvine

Stewartry headed up to Irvine looking for a league double over the Ayrshire club and four in a row wins at Irvine.

The weather was not going to allow for fancy play as the windy wet swept down the pitch. Both teams checked each other out with few chances in the first quarter of the game with the home teams scoring the first points from a penalty award to lead 3-0.
Stewartry hit straight back from the restart kick giving the speedy Spence the opening try in the corner 3-5 the Blacks ahead.

Both teams were trying to play an open game and the Irvine no 8 charged his way over for an Irvine try in the corner. 8-5 Irvine.

Minutes later Stewartry were back ahead with Captain J Picken setting J Forsyth for a second try at the posts. JP added the points 8-12.

After being a hero with the second try J Forsyth became the villain being yellow carded for a high tackle and while he spent his ten minutes on the bench Irvine used the extra man advantage to score a converted try to go ahead 15-12.

Stewartry doubled their effort and with Spence starting from his own line he chased ahead and retained his kick ahead passed inside to Picken who took his chance to score. Mosey converted and Stewartry were back in the lead 15-19.

Stewartry had the wind advantage in the second half and has happened in recent games the Irvine fitness in the big scrum started to tire with Mosey punishing Irvine with some big kicks into the corners giving Maxwell and Hogg two quick tries Stewartry were coasting 15-29 and it looked like game over.

Nicholson came into his own tackling everything above the grass as the Blacks were coasting gaining their bonus point.

Cammie Denerley joined the fray from the bench with his first touch he was over scoring his first Stewartry try which was mentioned all the way down the A713 to Castle Douglas. 15-34. Hogg completed his hat trick of tries with two more scores and Captain John Picken completed the rout with a ninth try and Craig Mosey tidied up kicking the final four tries for the Blacks running out comfortable winners 15-57.
